With age, the muscles in your face may start to lose their firmness, causing your cheeks to become flat, making them look hollow and gaunt. This creates a less youthful look.

At first, you may succeed in camouflaging these signs of aging, but over time, it becomes impossible, which is when you will need to use a dermal filler like Voluma.

What Is Voluma?

Voluma is a gel that is injected under the skin tissues. It was developed especially for the cheeks and the cheekbones. It is used to fill in hollow cheeks, which restores the youthfulness of your face that has been lost due to age.

This product contains hyaluronic acid, which attracts water molecules to increase volume in the cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Because of this, the synthetic hyaluronic acid in the Voluma injections does not cause allergic reactions.

It also contains a tiny amount of lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. The lidocaine numbs the region to any pain, ensuring that you do not feel any discomfort when injected.

These injections provide a long-lasting solution. You will not have to worry about your gaunt cheeks for the next eighteen months, which is much longer than what other fillers can do.

Your Voluma Consultation

Before your Voluma treatment, you will need to meet with Dr. Song for a consultation. During this consultation, the two of you will go over your expectations and aesthetic goals. You will tell Dr. Song about your complete medical history, including any medications you are currently taking and any past facial procedures you have undergone.

The skin of your cheeks will be carefully examined, along with your facial structure; this is done to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for Voluma injections.

The Voluma Procedure Explained

On the date of your treatment session, key areas of your cheeks will be marked as a guide for the injections. Injections of Voluma will then be carefully and precisely delivered. Only small amounts of Voluma are injected.

After the injections are performed, Dr. Song massages the cheeks to ensure that the spread of the product is uniform. It is also common to apply an icepack to the treatment area in order to reduce any swelling, bruising, or discomfort.

Once the procedure is complete, you will be free to return to your normal schedule without any downtime or recovery time required. This makes the treatment incredibly convenient.

You may need extra touch-up treatments after the initial session; these will be given after a month to help achieve the required results. The results may last up to two years, after which you will need a new Voluma treatment session to maintain the results.
